Morning Glories
A few months ago Morning Glories premiered completely under my radar. It came in and sold out, second issue came in and sold out. Then a dude who i think looks like a film guy, works at the Exchange, bearded, adorable, mentioned the book to me and i checked it out. I bought second printing of those first two issues and was blown away.
One thing i should mention about myself is i have a weakness for teens, especially in comic book narrative. I grew up reading Generation X and when i left comics for a few years it was the Runaways that reignited my love for serialized-illustrated storytelling.
ANYWAY.
This book is a little bit Battle Royal, school uniforms and it seems all the adults in the book are trying to kill them. Kinda. The adults keep telling them they're training them for what's to come.
A little bit Runaways, with a fun diverse group of kids that don't necessarily like each other but are bound by circumstance.
And the last comparison is LOST (I'm pretty sure in another year or so we'll have as many characters-main and secondary- as that photo), like the show the book is good at not really revealing what exactly is going on.
These kids show up at this prestigious school, but the academy seems to have ulterior motives for their students, they seems to be in search of someone specific, and in order to do that they've justified torture, kidnapping and murder.
Oh, and theirs also this weird ghost thing that can phase through you and melt your brain and make your eye balls pop out. Rad.
The last issue (7) centered around Zoe, the least likable character of the group and now the most fleshed out and turned what you thought you knew about her, slutty cheerleader, into something even more. She may have more of understanding of what's going on then everyone else in the book. Gold. Solid bloody gold.
I'm as excited for the next issue of Morning Glories as i was for the new episode of LOST. New nerd-session.
Late 20's dude who likes music, horror movies, comics and other dudes.

There's a new X-Men movie coming out this year and the trailer was released earlier this week.
Before watching the trailer the only thing i knew about the movie was the cast list, specifically who was playing Emma Frost. A character I've had a long standing familiarity with since my comic loving origins, back when she was the headmistress and teacher for the Generation X class. Anyway, a few years back the amazing Grant Morrison (writer of Doom Patrol, Invisibles, and -personal favorite-Animal Man) revamped and tweeked the character into the amazing ex-villain, cold-hearted, husband stealing bitch she is now.
I digress, this is supposed to be about the movie. So i was a little worried, at some point Bryan Singer (director of the first two movies) was connected to this but backed out/dropped out in the early stages of pre-production. A few weeks ago SOMEONE leaked a cast photo from the movie. A horrible cast photo that tried to resemble the ad-ascetic of the first couple Singer movies.
The trailer itself is quite dramatic and not what i expected from a comic book movie, i expected more over the top cheese, instead its more of a straight-forward pseudo-attempt at an political action flick.
Diamondy Emma Frost seems like it'll never look right on film. Reminds me of an exaggerated Twilight vampire in the sun.
Magneto and Professor X seem to be working on saving the world from a missile crisis, assuming Cuban.
Seems like Hank McCoy becomes blue in this film (whoops, wasn't he pink in the first movie?).
Havok is older than Scott.
Angel looks too much like a model, the actress is too pretty. A Grant Morrison creation, she was sassy and her powers were a little grotesque, i hope we see her eat (like a fly). Vomiting on her food before consuming it.
Azazel is in this movie (Nightcrawler's dad), and it looks like he's got a badass scene in the film. He's a bit of a controversial character since he was created a few short years ago in a horrible storyline about Nightcrawler's origin. Horrible storyline, it was a sad few years in X-Men comic history.
Since they show Mystique in the trailer (Nightcrawler's mom) i hope they show baby 'Crawler BAMF out! How rad would that be?!
The cast is hot as fuck, i cannot wait to see January Jones walk around in her bra for most of the movie! I don't even really like boobies but i love me some Emma and Ms. Jones.
I am totally stoked about the movie now, the last scene in the trailer with the planes and missiles suspended in air look great. I'll be there opening weekend.

| Movie continuity? Nah, we don't need that. |

So, the new Lady Gaga song debuted today. Her ability to rip off Madonna is astounding. Her image (Larry King outfits), her controversy(dull in your face sexuality), and now her songs; they're not only taken from the Queen of Pop but they're completely uninspired. I'm sure the new generation is eating this up and have forgotten about lady M.
This is the gayest post i'll ever write, i'm not even a huge Madonna fan, just a fan of music and evolution of music. This is not evolution, its stagnant regurgitation.

Rec 2
As some of you know, i LOVE Rec. The 2007 Spanish horror film about a quarantined apartment building, the entire event is being documented by a late night
All week I've been putting off my facial hair trim. I mean, last weekend i trimmed the whole thing, used a buzzer set at number 2, but knew that i had more to do. This office job I'm starting in 7 hours requires a 'cleaner' look. I think the stress of procrastination, winter cold on my skin, and stubbornness all climaxed this morning before the sun woke me up. I had a nightmare about being completely facial-hair less. I out of bed and immediately ran to the nearest mirror and sighed relief when i realized it was just my subconscious fucking with me. Again. You'd think with all the horror movies I've been watching this blizzard it would have been a little more gory/interesting. oh well. here is me. cleaned up.

I'm horrible with birthday's. i never remember them, thats one thing i like about facebook, their convenient reminders for potheads like me. As soon as i found out i got a little emotional. Having clear memories of someone from birth until now is an odd things to experience. Faults, different lifestyles and bad choices aside she's one of the only people in my dad's side of the family i can just hang out with and have a good fun time with. She's also given me a beautiful nephew. ugh, i might go cry now.

I cannot get over how perfect the new Hercules & Love Affair video is, 'My House,' its got the video tape quality i used to see when i'd watch VHS tapes of House parties. Its the right mix of nostalgia without the offensive irony that seems to happen when people nowadays try to pay homage to an old underground lifestyle. Even the commercials in the middle of the music video is perfect, remember this? That commerical played for decades on local chicago tv. :)
The editing effects remind me of the Box, the old 90's music channel. Ya'll remember that?
I need to find some place to get down and boogie to this song. I can't wait for the vinyl, that shit's gonna be so HOT.

The New Years Eve party was completely nuts. My recollection of the night is a little blurry and not completely chronological. Thangs that happened: my bedroom was used as a drug den, which was something that i previously promised to various stoner friends. Flash of a friend walking up to me, with a bottle of poppers and telling me to sniff. Cutting infront of the line, with three other people to get something out of the bathroom, then a photo session while we took turns urinating, i hope the kids waiting outside didn't resent me too much, its my place anyway. Making out with my eyes closed and opening them to see the smile of the dude i've had a boy-crush on for weeks., that was rad. Spending it with pretty much all my close friends in the city, that was the best.
The next day was overbearing. I woke up the a group of people already cleaning, we filled the entire recycling dumpster with cans and bottles (it was empty the day before). We were all hungover and hungry but we couldn't leave the apartment for brunch without a little cleaning. we swept (about 5 times) mopped (3 times) until it was at a manageable and satisfying point. Did another sweep of the house this morning and still built a mountain of dirty and confetti...
my brain is dead....too much booze, too much chilaxing with Danny and Sarah yesterday. I need some exercise to get the blood pumpin' again.
31 December 2010

I've complied a playlist, sort of a best of 2010. Keep in mind that i was without access to new music for about two thirds of the year., due to a burnt out logic board on my laptop. There was a lot that i missed and didn't get a chance to listen to or just completely forgot about (also, feel free to recommend something you think i'd like, i'm a sponge when it comes to music).
Let me know what you think?
i hope you like at least a couple of those tracks.

This guy's stuff is wicked cool, and this particular one reminds me of what a Dragon Ball energy attack would look like. Technology putting the power of dragon balls in your hands.
